Tips on Being a Smart Taxpayer

As a responsible taxpayer, eligible individuals are required to report their annual income, calculate income tax and submit the Income Tax Return Form or through e-Filing submission.

Thus, below are the tips to guide you to be a smart taxpayer:

TIP 1: REGISTER YOUR INCOME TAX FILE

  • First step, you need to register individual tax files.
  • You may register via 2 methods which are:
  • Prepare supporting documents for registration
  • Copy of Identity Card
  • Copy of Business Registration Certificate from SSM (if you have business Enterprise)

TIP 2: GET YOUR E-FILING PIN NUMBER

  • To enable you to submit a Tax Form online, first, you need to get an e-Filing pin number. How?
  • Below are the documents needed:
  • Fill up Form CP55D [download it from Inland Revenue Board (IRB) website]
  • Copy of Identity Card

  • You must remember these dates. It is important for you to submit your income tax form on time.

TIP 5: MAKE SURE YOU CHOOSE THE RIGHT FORM

  • Please ensure that you choose the correct Form, whether Form BE or Form B. Additionally, please make sure the year of assessment is correct.
  • Please choose the Form according to your sources of income.
  • Not doing business: Submit BE Form
  • Example: Ahmad (Taxpayer) is a Director of ABC Sdn. Bhd. Every month Ahmad will receive a salary from his company. Then, Ahmad should submit BE Form every year.
  • Doing business: Submit B Form
  • Example: Afnan (Taxpayer) runs a grocery store business under the name Ahmad Grocery Enterprise. Then, Afnan should submit B Form every year.

TIP 6: MAKE PAYMENT TO INLAND REVENUE BOARD MALAYSIA (IRBM)

  • After you declare your income, then you could proceed to make an income tax payment to IRBM.
